Snorkeling at Woody Head Camping Ground
If you have ever thought about a safe place to teach children snorkeling and have something interesting to look at to grab their imaginations then I suggest Camping at Woody Head Camping Ground in the Bundjalung National Park just north of Iluka on the northern bank of the Clarence River. There is more information about the area in our Newsletter page.
Right in front of the camping and picnic area is a rocky headland and scattered rocks around which grows lots of weed ie fish habitat. There is a big hole best located at half tide so it's not too deep, it's like being in a big fish bowl with fish of all types and sizes swimming around you and to my absolute delight when I was there recently, there were three big turtles feeding on the weed and sleeping/hiding at the bottom of the hole. A couple were quite tame and came up and floated just below me before moving away slowly and later on when I was snorkeling along the rock ledge looking for what I could find in the weed a turtle swam up beside me, looking at me, me looking at him, just paddling along, WOW, what a time to remember. That's really what getting out of your comfort zone is all about, you just don't know what can turn up.
That is what I love about camping, having nature all around me - yes I know in a park you have to share but basically you are all there for the same reason. Just step out, have a camp fire - wood is provided - walk along the shoreline, go fishing, snorkeling, kayaking, boating - there is a boat ramp - driving up the beach - the entrance is just back up the highway a km or so. For the more adventurist there is a bike track to town with access to the surf beaches along the way, It is all there all the time and we just have to enjoy it.
For all your camping requirements, rent from East Coast Camping Hire, why buy when you can rent? We have packages to suit everyone, individual items including kayaks, surf skis, bicycles, use the links and check out our pages, and give us a call. If you are after a hassle free holiday we can set up your camp before you arrive and dismantle it after you leave. Can it get much better than that?
Lennox Head and Lake Ainsworth
What a beautiful week-end at Lennox Head, a seaside village situated on the stretch of coast betweeen Byron Bay and Ballina on the Far North Coast New South Wales, Australia, and by the shores of peaceful Lake Ainsworth, a freshwater lake nestled behind the beach and sand dunes that has distinctive tannin-stained waters from the surrounding tea trees (the water makes your hair really soft). Water was a cool 20 degrees, air temperature a warm 29 degrees and people were everywhere. With Lennox now a National Surfing Reserve, surfers come from far and wide to ride the famous right hand break on Seven Mile Beach, dogs were running and splashing at the northern end where they are allowed to be off their leash and folk were basking in the perfect sunny day. With the Camping Ground next to Lake Ainsworth, it is great for the children who played on surf skis and kayaks, swimmers doing very long laps and folk just splashing around having fun. Back on the beach with the water so clear, we could see dolphins catching waves with the surfers and up on the point (a 65m cliff perfect for hang-gliders) was a good place to watch for the annual whale migration. It was a blissful start to Queensland's school holidays and a busy time for East Coast Camping Hire, erecting tents, delivering gear up and down the coast, a good time for all. This is what we like to do most of all, helping you Explore, Experience and Enjoy your Vacation whether it is long or short.

Student Camping Equipment Hire for Schools
Calvary Christian College went to Emu Gully Activity Camp at Helidon:
"East Coast Camping Hire provided fantastic, professional service and helped us sort out a shortage of accommodation. The tents were set up ready for our student’s arrival, and packed up at the end of the camp. It was so nice not to have to worry about these things. We will certainly be keeping your details on file! Thanks also for the feedback about the tents, I think the boys were somewhat excited that they didn't have to do any mopping like the girls in their dormitories. Thanks."
Coomera Anglican College ran a camp for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards and said:
"I have been very satisfied with your services. The gear arrived on time and was collected with no drama. The mess kits worked well and the stoves were fine. The tents didn't leak or blow down in the stormy weather though a little heavy to carry on the hike. I found your prices very reasonable. I have been very happy with your service and will use this business and recommend this business in the future. Thank-you."
We can tailer a package to suit your particular needs, so when organising your next school camp contact East Coast Camping Hire and get a quote, phone Ed 0407 064 732 or 0401 784 603.
Upper Clarence River Camping
We collected our camping gear from East Coast Camping Hire and headed west to Tabulam.
Turning off Paddy's Flat Road we meandered down the gravel road that was at times quite steep, I wondered what this grand and glorious adventure would hold for us.
We had been told of the Clarence River Wilderness Lodge by an acquaintance who had enjoyed their family experience there. The gravel road led to a large and lovely green camping area beside the upper Clarence River, which Steve the lodge owner was currently mowing. We introduced ourselves and Steve answered our questions and gave us a well prepared information booklet on what was available to us and some of the history of the area. We drove off to the side of the large camping area which is often used for school groups for canoeing adventures, to a more secluded campsite.
As we had chosen to have our time away during the week, we were fortunate enough to be the only campers there at that time.
Oh! it was so quiet, so relaxing and so rejuvenating.
A lovely rain shower came over just as we had set up camp and when it stopped we watched the mists come over the somewhat sheer cliff face on the other side of the river.
We woke the next morning to the glorious chorus of bird song of many different sorts of birds, but not early enough to see the platypus feeding. All throughout the days when I allowed my mind to stop it's chatter and I listened there were birds singing and why wouldn't they sing living in this almost undisturbed wilderness area, that would certainly give them the happiness factor.
Choosing a morning walk along the river, we saw birds, birds and more birds. And oh! the butterflies, there were hundreds of orange ones, they flew in front of us along the track, they were so busy flitting from flower to flower and grass stalk to grass stalk. I did attempt to photograph them but they were too fast for me. There were blue speckled ones, white and black, and large black ones. I don't know the names that human beings call them, I was just enjoying their company.
Lunchtime and we were visited by a large grandaddy goanna, I suspect that he may have been interested in sharing our lunch, he left disappointed but did test out our shoes as he was leaving. After lunch we explored up river and did some rock climbing near some rapids and had a swim in the river. The nights were cool so we lit a camp fire, it was just lovely sitting by the fire chatting and being mesmerized by the flames.
